"I’m drawn to normality, to closeness. To all those things we are tired of seeing. They are sincere, bare, unadorned. They allow us to clearly identify the things we have in common, feelings of defeat or boredom, happiness or affection – our most honest impulses. The world is composed by these little stories, they are the really important stuff."

"Terra Incognita comes out of the discovery of a land, explored by one who wants to be an observer and be observed at the same time. It is a voyage into the unknown, towards a space far away from the commonplace, which questions us and seems to be our accomplice yet keeps us at a distance. It plots a symbolic map in which the memory and the magic of the place appear. In this game with nature, the personal, subjective gaze reveals strange, dreamlike, almost impossible images. The series Terra Incognita was made during an artist's residency in the Aparté, lieu d'art contemporain in Brittany."

"“The flawless and the raw” are Andreas H. Bitesnich’s defining elements of Japanese culture, and the way it is reflected in his own work. A master of the controlled studio composition, Bitesnich demonstrates that he is equally at home producing perfect compositions from random street situations, where the rawness of bare flesh is replaced by analogue roughness thrust over the bare bones of urban living. Images which in themselves are surprising, almost surrealistic, become even more bizarre through the book’s use of juxtaposition, lending meaning, distorting meaning, or as with most street photography, leaving meaning entirely open to the interpretation of the individual."

I see around me tombstones grey
Stefano Marchionini
self-published book
48 pages
15 x 20 cm
digital print

printed at Deux-Ponts | France
first edition: 100

"After having spent some years far from my parents I have understood that wherever they are it is their nearness that gives me the feeling of being at home.
It could be in my hometown on the Lake Maggiore, that I left almost ten years ago, or where my father used to work.
As I started taking picture of them, of my family, I noticed that there was a different atmosphere compared to the feel my life away from them has.
It is true that whenever I stay home for a few weeks I realize that their/our reality is becoming more dramatic every year: oldness, sickness, retirement and a general feel of inquietude.
However it is thanks to this that I know where I come from and where I want (or don't want) to be.

"Atlas is a personal response to the challenge of representing the nomadic nature of experience. Israel Ariño's gaze glides through reality and is transformed in an extraordinary and timeless world, caught and invented at the same time. Objects emerge and sensations are evoked in his photographs which were not there at first glance, and which only appear when the image materialises and the viewer then looks at it. Only then can we see the poetry that was waiting, crouched in the treetops, or in a half-seen figure, the reflections in a river, in a ghostly jellyfish or in the joy of momentary abandon."

The Fourth Wall
Max Pinckers
Design by Christof Nüssli, Werkplaats Typografie, Arnhem
192 pages
195 x 273 mm
Edition of 1000
Offset on 45g newspaper
35 euro

"On a theater stage that consists of three walls; left, right and back, the fourth wall forms the imaginary screen through which the audience sees the scene unfold. The actors, conscious of this barrier, tend to break through it now and then by hinting at their own fiction, acknowledging the camera and the act. Nowhere else is there such devotion to cinema as in India. This fictional world seeps into reality and influences everyday life dictating the perception and imagination of its audience. A collection of quotes from newspapers is evidence of this synthesis. The people in these images become actors by choosing their own roles, which they perform for the camera and its western operator. Conscious of the power of images, they give it their all, reflecting on their silver screen dreams by embracing their collective visual world and creating their own brief moments of suspension of disbelief."
