"Michael de Kooter photographed the blurred area between town and border: tidy and improbable spaces created for family leisure where low cost residential areas and odd sport places unroll one after another in a tedious fashion, each of them imposing their presence between protective demarcations that seem too neat to be true. He mastered the delicate step between the “decisive moment” and a more Germanic and analytic distance from the subject: a busy highway is frozen in its eternal desolation during a short pause between two cars, another photograph shows the arm of a swimmer in the distance that reminds us of the strange apparition of an improbable Swiss Nessie. Page after page, we discover through Michael’s eye the strange relationship between humans and their surroundings, between humans and nature." - Alban Kakulya & Yann Mingard
